LIVING POSITIVE PROGRAM INTERNSHIP

Internships abroad present benefits beyond just professional development. Internship at Living Positive offers you an independent opportunity to be completely immersed within the culture and work environment. You will gain in-depth understanding of the local issues, learn directly from the field and/or with local experts, and gain hand-on experience.

Internship at LPP is an excellent opportunity for interns interested in fostering awareness of HIV/AIDS and studying ways to change attitude and behaviour of the infected and affected. You will be involved in counselling, education, expanding the network of LPP and ensuring its economic sustainability. This project is open to any interns who are willing to share their love, time and compassion with the HIV infected and affected persons and those who are willing to halt the spread of this pandemic.

Tarin Arndt and Aurora Lacas are currently doing an internship with Living Positive Program. You can read about their experience with the program from their blog.

7. Conditions of living:
You will work under supervision of our staff. You will be hosted close to the project with a local family and you will have your own room.

Accommodation and food will be provided at 200 Euro per month. This is to cover the living expenses and contribute to maintaining the basic programs of the organization. We consider this amount to be a very reasonable one that benefits the intern, as he/she will not be asked to pay great amounts of money to work as a volunteer like many other ‘non profit’ organizations do! We value very much the willingness to offer your time, energy to the project and understand that the period of internship you will not have an income.

The intern is expected to work 5 days a week, though the system is very flexible. We understand that you might want to use one of your working days to explore this wonderful country.

There are a few facilities in Ngong town. There are local markets and supermarkets and Internet cafes. 10 minutes by public transport from Ngong, there is Karen; the closest town which hosts a big number of westerns and expatriates and therefore has some ‘luxury products’ like big supermarkets and good restaurants.
By public transport, you can reach Nairobi city in 40 minutes. We do not recommend travelling alone at night hours.

To apply, please send an email with your resume and the reasons why you want to do an internship with Living Positive Program to us.

You are welcome!

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Because LPP is a small grassroots organization, there is a fair amount of personal responsibility on part of the intern them self. With regards to an emergency exit policy or plan, it is recommended that within the first few days of arrival the intern register with their embassy which are all located in Nairobi (approximately 40 min - 1hr public transit ride from Ngong or a taxi can be arranged if the intern wishes to pay for it). If an individual is not registered with their embassy there is no way for their home country to help them in emergency situations such as natural disasters or political uprisings.  Registering with your embassy is a pretty simply process - you are required to fill out some forms and provide information on your place of residence while in Kenya. They would also be able to provide you with an emergency contact number in case of emergency situations.

With respect to Health Issues - we highly recommend travel insurance (which can purchased through travel companies, banks, or extended health care providers prior to leaving your home country). There are a variety of hospitals and clinics located in and around the Ngong area. There are also 2 major hospitals within Nairobi for more serious injuries. Most travel insurance companies require the individual to pay for medical costs while in the country and reimburse you upon return and submission of claim - make sure to keep all your receipts for any costs incurred while traveling.

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention provides travelers with a great overview of vaccines and medications required or recommended for traveling to Kenya (

For any additional questions, feel free to contact one of our volunteer coordinators and we will try to assist you in any way possible
