Living Positive Grandmother Project

One of the biggest AIDS related problems is the orphaning of the children after their parents die of AIDS related illnesses. In many cases the grandparents are left to take-care of their grandchildren. Given their age and the huge responsibility of taking care of young children, some of whom are HIV+, it is difficult to have a group activity for the grandmothers.

Living Positive has however been able to reach-out to grandmothers and offer support in areas of house rents, hospital bills, provision of food stuffs and boosted a few businesses through the support of various visitors and volunteers to the project.

The grandmothers are in many cases the unrecognized heroes who after bringing up their own children, they bury them as a result of HIV/AIDS and are left to care for their orphaned grandchildren. The grandmothers need a lot of support in terms of the children’s educational requirements, medical support, transportation to hospital and basic requirements for themselves and their grandchildren.

The program is currently taking care of 15 grandmothers’ families and a lot of financial and material supplies are required in these homes.
